T1d Mission Project

Background

Kingdom Destiny Church will be embarking on our first Missions Project in the coming months. The leadership team has decided to reach out to the disadvantage group of children who are suffering from Type 1 Diabetics.  It was the inspiration and vision from Yohan & Dahlia who themselves are parents of their only son who is suffering from T1D.

What is T1D?

•Type 1 diabetes is caused by the immune system attacking and destroying the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin.

Symptoms

 Facts & Figures

  • Type 1 Diabetes is primarily diagnosed in those 10-14 years of age.

  • On average Type 1 Diabetes costs a patient $4,669 annually.

  • When complications associated with the disease arise, (around 20 years after diagnosis), this cost can increase to $16, 698 per patient (with costs normally endured by individuals and families).

  • After 20 years, almost all people with Type 1 Diabetes will develop early stage retinopathy (eye damage). A small proportion of people will develop end stage retinopathy, which can lead to permanent blindness.

  • Excluding the cost of complications, Type 1 Diabetes costs the Australian health system $400 million per year.

  • Type 1 Diabetes accounts for 118,845 people in Australia living in Australia with the condition (June 2017 stats).
